LIFE ON FILM 01: TOKYO, SUMMER 2016

After finalising my portfolio, going through and passing the entire application process to prepare for my next step in terms of my future, I decided it was about time to go Home. One of many Homes.

If you know me, I can get quite frustrated over the question: Where Are You From? Don't get me wrong, I get the idea of being curious and interested in where a person is coming from. I can feel the same urge to ask someone about their background. We are all curious. We should stay curious. What I can't quite understand is the reaction afterwards and along with that the disbelief:

No, but like where are you really from? Like where are your parents or your people from? You don't look German. You don't look Vietnamese. You don't look Japanese. You look Asian.

I see myself as a world resident. If we could view each other as some sort of fellow traveller on this journey called life there would be more mutual understanding, respect and love among the human race. Growing up, I was constantly struggling with identification and the term "Home". Today, I still haven't found a clear answer to the question. Instead, I found something greater: balance.

I started this new series on Followingmi called: LIFE ON FILM (LOF) where I am documenting (daily) life with the help of my film camera. To me, Life is a journey that is made up of moments. Regardless where I am, which country or which Home, I am trying to hold these moments that define genuine emotions and honest interactions; raw, uncut, no post production. Things can change, people and landscapes can change but memories should stay.

In my first episode, I am sharing my developed films from my summer in Tokyo #followingmitotokyo. I am new to film photography, so if you can share some advice with me that would be much appreciated.
