If you have watched my latest video here (I am sharing some of my tips on how I am packing my suitcase), you might have heard that I was heading to two destinations this summer. Of course, one being none other than: Tokyo - where I have lived prior to moving back to Germany.

August being the hottest and I believe most humid month in Tokyo, I knew what I was getting myself into as this was my third summer there. I made sure to pack a lot of easy breezy and light pieces. You know how much I love my basics, so a white button down along with an A-line denim skirt surely had to make it into my suitcase. I always preferred denim shorts over denim skirts hence the ratio of 10:1 in my closet. Contrary to popular belief, I only have one single denim skirt in my closet, and it's the one I am wearing below.

Packing a lot of basics allows you to mix and match. Trust me, one white button down goes with every bottom piece you pack (like I did here); even dresses (more about that in a future post). I paired mine with this high-waisted A-line denim skirt, and I am wearing my comfortable black Birkenstocks (hello again, Birkenstock double tan lines on my feet!). I think I wore my white Birkenstock the most in Tokyo in 2014 as you can see here.

Another great advantage of styling basic pieces: accessories.
Here I am carrying my favourite clutch. The colours and embroidery is perfect for the summer, and instantly adds a pop of color to every outfit.
Chokers have made a big comeback this year (so did every other 90's inspired trend). I like wearing the simple black tattoo choker (the astronomy geek in me also has one that carries a silver planet pendant) but if you want to be less edgy in your outfit, try flowery chokers such as this cute one I am wearing that has daisies. How summer appropriate, don't you think?

I am always big on creating the illusion of longer appearing legs - be it with the help of the right angle when taking photos or by picking the right shape that fits my body type. I find A-line skirts to be very flattering but keep in mind, A-line skirts aren't all the same (short A-line, slimmed and narrow A-line, high-waisted and so on). Make sure you find the right length and cut that is most flattering for your body shape, and that makes you feel most comfortable, always!

white button down - ONLY (also like this one)
denim skirt - H&M (similar here and here)
clutch - MANGO (currently on sale!)
